Cougar Swimming Heads to Utah for Final Dual Meet

THIS WEEK
Washington State University swimming travels to Salt Lake City, Utah to face the University of Utah on Feb 13 at 10 a.m. PST at the Ute Natatorium...last season the Cougars defeated the Utes 156.5-105.5.
COMING UP
The Cougars will travel to Federal Way, Wash to compete in the Pac-12 Championships...the events will take place Feb. 24-27 and will be all day.
COUGARS EARN NO. 38 NATIONAL RANKING
Washington State is ranked No. 38 by CollegeSwimming.com...WSU was ranked the highest in school history in the initial rankings at No. 16...the Cougars are one of seven Pac-12 teams ranked and appear ahead of Utah (47).
LAST TIME OUT
Washington State closed their home schedule by defeating the University of Nebraska 266-106 in a two-day meet...the Cougars dominated the Cornhuskers by capturing 18 of 20 races...junior Addisynn Bursch broke a Gibb Pool record with a win on Friday in the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:02.62...she also contributed three more wins...in the 200 freestyle, Bursch touched the wall first at 1:51.88...she clocked a time of 51.20 in the 100 freestyle, picking up nine more points for WSU...to close her standout meet, she won the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.18...sophomore Anna Brolin added 18 points to the Cougars score with two wins in butterfly events..in the 100 fly, she finished at 55.86...she also touched the wall first in the 50 butterfly, with a time of 25.32...junior Kendra Griffin and freshman Jasmine Margetts both picked up two wins for the Cougars...Griffin clocked the fastest time of 17:23.15 in the 1650 freestyle and 5:02.11 in the 500 freestyle...Margetts finished first in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 1:59.39 and dominated the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.26...sophomore Hannah Bruggman won the 50 backstroke, clocking a time of 27.04...in the 100 breaststroke, seniors Frederikke Hall and Presley Wetterstrom finished first and second to close their final meet at home...Wetterstrom clocked a time of 1:04.92, placing her second...Hall finished at 1:04.76, to earn her final win at Gibb Pool...Wetterstrom also had a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.58...junior Elise Locke won the 200 butterfly when she touched the wall at 2:02.91...WSU won all the relay events including the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, 400 medley and 400 freestyle.
MARGETTS, WETTERSTROM OLYMPIC TRIAL QUALIFIERS
Last summer, two Cougars qualified for the U.S. Olympic Time Trials...freshman Jasmine Margetts competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals...Margetts, a Torrance, Calif. native, re-qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly after posting a time of 2:14.84, finishing No. 12…senior Presley Wetterstrom qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trial in the 200 breaststroke last June in Santa Clara, Calif…the Colfax, Calif. native swam a time of 2:34.02 in the 'B' final to finish 14th overall...both swimmers will travel to Omaha, Neb. for the trials set for June 26-July 3, 2016 ...the team trial is the sole qualifier for swimmers hoping to earn a spot on the USA Swimming Olympic Team that will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
