Mims Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington State's Taylor Mims is the Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 7-13, as announced by the Pac-12 Conference office Monday.

The Cougars, 19-9 overall, 9-7 in Pac-12 play, defeated Arizona State and No. 25 Arizona last weekend in Pullman. This marked the first time since the 1991 season that WSU won both the road matches and the home matches against the Arizona schools. The 19 wins this season is tied for the seventh-most wins in WSU during the Pac-10/12 eras.

In the wins over Arizona State and No. 25 Arizona, Mims, a sophomore middle blocker from Billings, Mont., led the team with 17 blocks for a 1.89 blocks per set average. She also contributed 17 kills, six digs and three assists. In the ASU win, Mims had 11 of WSU's 19 blocks, and the 11 blocks in a four-set match ties Claire Martin (2015) for fifth-best blocks in a match. WSU's 19 team blocks is also tied for fifth-best in school history.

Mims is averaging 1.52 blocks per set this season which is second-best on the team, second-best in Pac-12 and seventh-best in NCAA. Her 160 total blocks this season is ninth-best in NCAA. She also leads the team with a .319 hitting percentage which is 10th-best in the Pac-12. In WSU all-time single season records, her current total of 137 block assists is sixth-best and her 160 total blocks is seventh-best.

This is the second career weekly honor for Mims, she was the Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 2, and the 25th Player of the Week honor for Washington State all-time.

WSU travels to No. 16 Utah and Colorado this week for Thursday and Sunday matches.
