PARKER, Colo. – The Washington State men's golf team tied for eighth with Northern Colorado, Tuesday, at the Paintbrush Invitational.
WSU moved three spots up the leaderboard after carding a third round 289 (+1), its lowest round of the tournament. The team finished with an overall score of 885 (+21), 35 strokes behind tournament-champion No. 3 Oklahoma State (-14, 850). No. 19 Colorado (-5, 859) and No. 7 Texas Tech (-3, 861) finished in second and third, respectively.
"We still need to do a better job of sticking to our keys and executing during the round," WSU Head Coach
Dustin White said. "But the fact that we fought until the end shows grit and pride."
Leading the team was senior
Nick Mandell, who tied for 23rd (+3, 219) after shooting 2-under par with five birdies in the final round. Highlighted by his eagle on the back nine, sophomore
AJ Armstrong tied for 25th with an overall score of 220 (+4).
Junior
Zach Anderson tied for 44th place at 226 (+10). Sophomore
Grant Cole trailed Anderson by one stroke to tie for 51st with a three-round score of 227 (+11).
"We have to get off to a better start and carry the momentum over each round," White said. "We are learning and figuring out our formula to success. We'll get there."
Next up, the men's golf team will head to Monterey, Calif. to compete at the Saint Mary's Intercollegiate, Oct. 24-26.
