Roman and Hare Race at Rio Games

Roman is racing in the women's eight, Hare in the women's pair.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Former Washington State rower, Lisa Roman (2011-13) and current rower, Nicole Hare (2013-present) concluded the first two days of rowing in the Canadian varsity eight and pair boats, respectively, at the 2016 Olympic Games, Monday. 

Roman and her varsity eight crew placed third in its heat with a time of 6:09.52 and will move on to the Repechage, Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 9:50 a.m. Rio time. The winners of the two heats moved on to the finals, while the other five crews move onto the Repechage. Great Britain won Canada's heat, while the United States won heat one. 

A member of the pair crew, Hare and her teammate, Jennifer Martins, concluded action at the Rio Games Tuesday. On Monday, Aug. 8, the Canadian pair finished fourth in the first of three heats with a time of 7:22.99  to move onto the Repechage with another chance to move on to the semifinals. In the Rep, the crew placed fourth with a time of 8:09.01 less than two seconds behind third-place France. The top three moved on to the semifinals. Hare and Martins moved on to the C Final. 

The women's eight racing concludes Saturday, Aug. 13.
