Women's T&F Team, 11 Cougs Honored

NEW ORLEANS -- The Washington State University women's track and field team and 11 student-athletes received national recognition for their combination of athletic and academic excellence in 2015 among all NCAA Division I institutions by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Cougar women's team, with a 3.22 cumulative grade point average, was one of nine Pac-12 members and one of 224 DI women's programs to earn the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.
Seven WSU women track and field competitors were also singled out for individual all-Academic awards: Erin Allen (senior, 400m relay/relay, Kent, Wash.) 3.30 GPA medical science; Christiana Ekelem (junior, sprints, Etiwanda, Calif.) 3.26 GPA zoology; Kristine Felix (junior, pole vault, Wailuku, Hawai'i) 3.69 GPA biology; Dominique Keel (junior, sprints, Beaverton, Ore.) 3.90 GPA sociology; Charlotte Muschamp (senior, high jump, Edendale, New Zealand) 3.62 GPA architecture; Abby Regan (senior, middle distance, Coonamble, NSW, Australia) 3.81 GPA interior design; and Kelsie Taylor (junior, throws, Naches, Wash.) 3.83 sport science.
The four WSU men honored and included Drew Jordan (redshirt senior, Medford, Ore.) 3.32 GPA criminal justice, Thane Pierson (junior, Naches, Wash.) 3.82 GPA communication, Forrest Shaffer (redshirt junior, Petaluma, Calif.) 3.44 GPA neuroscience, and Matthew Swanson (redshirt sophomore, North Vancouver, B.C., Canada) 3.85 GPA finance.
There were 838 women student-athletes representing 207 institutions, and 529 men student-athletes representing 165 institutions, tapped for the 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic teams honoring them for their combined efforts in competition and in the classroom. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All‐Academic Track and Field Team, the student‐athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student‐athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
