STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Bhurinat Songpaiboon carded a 1-under 69 in the final round of The Goodwin, as the Washington State University men's golf team took 10th place in the 24-team tournament, Saturday. The Cougars carded a third-round 286 (+6), at Stanford University Golf Course, and finished the tournament 8-over (848). WSU finished three strokes back from UC Davis (+5, 845), and finished ahead of Pac-12 foes No. 37 Colorado (+35, 875) and Arizona (+38, 878).
Songpaiboon led the way for the Cougars in the final round. The Bangkok, Thailand native carded five birdies in the final round and finished the tournament 1-over (211). Songpaiboon recorded his best finish of the season, tying for 33rd place.
“Bhurinat had a great round, and I'm happy to see him play well,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “There were a lot of good teams here. We need to work on coming out competitive and really battling at the beginning of the round. We played well in a big field and we're always looking to improve.”
Senior Michael Anderson provided the second counting score for the Cougars. Anderson finished 1-over (71) in the final round, bringing his three-round total to 213 (+3). Anderson finished tied for 46th place. Redshirt-senior Sang Lee finished one stroke back from Anderson. Lee carded a 74 (+4) in the third round. Coupled with a second-round 69 (-1) and a 71 (+1), Lee finished tied for 50th.
Freshman Derek Bayley carded his second-best round of the tournament, shooting 2-over (72), Saturday. Bayley finished the tournament 7-over (217) and tied for 73rd place. Sophomore Nick Mandell finished one stroke back from Bayley. Mandell (+8, 218) concluded the tournament tied for 80th.
The Cougars have a short respite before returning to competition, April 3-4, as they travel to Tempe, Ariz. to compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
