Josh Hawkinson Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University men's basketball junior, Josh Hawkinson, continued his lengthy double-double streak with three in as many games at the Diamond Head Classic to earn his first-career Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award, as voted upon by media who cover the conference, the league announced Monday.
The 6-10 forward from Shoreline, Wash., recorded double-doubles against No. 3 Oklahoma (16 pts, 8-for-15 from the field, 10 rebounds, 4 steals), Northern Iowa (14 points, 6-for-9 from the field, 13 rebounds) and New Mexico (19 points, 8-for-15 from the field, 10 rebounds, 4 assists) to average 16.3 points on 56 percent shooting (22-for-39) and 11.0 rebounds at the Diamond Head Classic.
One of the Pac-12's national-best four Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award nominees, Hawkinson leads the conference and is sixth in the country with nine double-doubles so far this season, including one in each of WSU's last seven games, and now has 29 double-doubles in his last 41 outings. He is one of three Pac-12 players averaging a double-double, leading the conference in rebounding (10.5 rpg) while ranking seventh in the league in both scoring (16.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (.598).
Hawkinson's streak of seven-straight double-doubles is his career-best streak and ties for the second-best streak in school history.
The Cougars open up Pac-12 play Friday, Jan. 1 hosting USC at 6 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum. The game is the first of three-straight conference home games for WSU as it hosts UCLA, Sunday, Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Washington Saturday, Jan. 9 at noon. All three games will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
