The Washington State University swim team travels to San Diego, Calif. to face San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex.
COMING UP
Washington State will race in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State University Invitational...the invite will begin on Friday Nov. 20 and end on Sunday Nov. 22, the events will be all day.
COUGARS EARN NO.32 NATIONAL RANKING
Washington State is ranked No. 32 by CollegeSwimming.com...WSU did not race this past week...the Cougars moved down two spots from last week at No. 30...the Cougars were ranked the highest in school history in the initial rankings at No.16...WSU is one of eight teams in the Pac-12 that is ranked in the top-50...they appear ahead of Arizona State (41) and Utah (47).
LAST TIME OUT
Washington State tallied five wins against Arizona State University and three wins against the University of Arizona and UNLV...against ASU, junior Kendra Griffin touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle at 10:15.15, a season-best for Griffin and the seventh-fastest mark in WSU history...junior Addisynn Bursch won the 200 medley with a time of 2:02.75, the sixth best time in WSU history...junior Elise Locke broke into the WSU Top-10 list when she won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.30, the fifth best time in school history...freshman Jasmine Margetts won the 200 backstroke at 1:59.21, the third-best time in school history...senior Presley Wetterstrom claimed the final win of the meet against ASU with a win in the 200 breaststroke at 2:16.58, the eighth best time in WSU history.
Against Arizona and UNLV, junior Elise Locke claimed two wins for WSU...in the 200 butterfly she touched the wall first at 2:01.82, the sixth fastest time in school history...in the 100 butterfly she won with a time of 55.81...Margetts broke into the WSU Top-10 list when she finished at 2:02.60 in the 200 butterfly, the eighth fastest time in school history...Wetterstrom set another top-10 mark in the 200 breaststroke at 2:15.58, the sixth best time...in the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Hannah Bruggman, Haley Rose Love, Bursch and Locke, closed the day with a win when they clocked a time of 3:27.15.
MARGETTS, WETTERSTROM OLYMPIC TRIAL QUALIFIERS
Over the summer, two Cougars qualified for the U.S. Olympic Time Trials...freshman Jasmine Margetts competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals...Margetts, a Torrance, Calif. native, re-qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly after posting a time of 2:14.84, finishing No. 12…senior Presley Wetterstrom qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trial in the 200 breaststroke last June in Santa Clara, Calif…the Colfax, Calif. native swam a time of 2:34.02 in the 'B' final to finish 14th overall...both swimmers will travel to Omaha, Neb. for the trials set for June 26-July 3, 2016 ...the team trial is the sole qualifier for swimmers hoping to earn a spot on the USA Swimming Olympic Team that will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
