Volleyball Hits the Oregon Trail

WSU VOLLEYBALL HITS THE OREGON TRAIL
The Washington State University volleyball team (15-13 overall, 4-12 Pac-12) goes on the road for the next two weeks...this week WSU travels to Eugene to meet Oregon (13-12 overall, 7-9 Pac-12) for a Wed., Nov. 18 match at 7:30 p.m. in Matthew Knight Arena...WSU heads north to Corvallis to play at Oregon State (5-21 overall, 3-13 Pac-12* pending 11/18 vs. No. 3 Washington) Fri., Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Gill Coliseum...both matches will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks...LAST TIME: Oct. 16, WSU defeated Oregon State in Pullman 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 25-9); Oct. 18, WSU lost to No. 24 Oregon in Pullman 1-3 (17-25, 25-22, 19-25, 22-25).
COUGAR COACHING STAFF
Jen Stinson Greeny is in her fifth season as WSU's head coach (68-89 at WSU, 5 years; 180-113 in career, 9 years) - complete Greeny bio on page 5...assistant coaches Burdette Greeny (fifth year) and Shannon Hunt (third year)...all coaches are former WSU student-athletes...volunteer coach James Dorr (first year)...Katie Hinrichs is coordinator of operations (fifth year).
WOODFORD NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
McKenna Woodford, 6-4 OH from Chandler, Ariz., is the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week (Nov. 9-15)...in the 3-0 win over Cal and 1-3 loss to No. 6 Stanford, Woodford led and averaged 4.14 kps on .311 hitting, 1.57 dps, 0.71 bps and 4.86 points per set...this is her second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor.
WSU IN NCAA NATIONAL STATISTICS (through 11/15/15):
> WSU is 16th in Team blocks per set at 2.85 bps
> WSU is 19th in Team total blocks at 279.0
> Kyra Holt is 55th in kills per set at 3.97 kps, 30th in attacks per set at 11.65 attps, and 50th in points per set at 4.54 pps
NOTEABLE WSU ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
> WSU is one of only 15 programs nationally to have at least two Top 25 Prepvolleyball.com (2013 - 14th, 2015 - 21st) and one honorable mention recruiting class ranking (2014) the last three years.
> McKenna Woodford two-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week
> Cougars won three of the four non-conference tournaments in 2015 with MVP awards going to McKenna Woodford (Lone Star Showdown) and Kyra Holt (Cougar Challenge and Idaho Volleyball Classic).
SOMMER CLAIMS WSU CAREER DIGS RECORD AND KEEPS DIGGING
Kate Sommer became the WSU career digs record-holder Oct. 18, 2015, when she surpassed Kelly Hyder's 1,773 career digs, set from 2006-2009...Sommer is the lone senior on the Cougars 2015 squad...Sommer, from Pacific Palisades, Calif., also passed one of her coaches, WSU assistant Shannon Wyckoff Hunt, who tallied 1,254 digs from 1994-97 as an all-round position player due to the libero position coming into NCAA play in 1999...Sommer has accumulated 1,907 digs to date.
