NCAA WEST REGIONALS CHAMPIONSHIPS FRIDAY IN SEATTLE
Washington State University's cross country teams head to Seattle for the NCAA West Regional Championships Friday, Nov. 13, at the Jefferson Park Golf Course...women's 6,000m race begins at Noon with the men's 10,000m race set to begin at 1 p.m...schools may enter seven runners per gender but only the top five count in team scoring (by place)...top two teams from each of the nine regionals around the country automatically advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 21 at Louisville, Ky...top four individuals from each regional, not on a qualifying team but finishing in the top 25, also automatically advance...additionally, 13 teams and two individuals will be chosen by an NCAA subcommittee for at-large selections and will be announced Saturday, Nov. 14.
PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS COUGAR HIGHLIGHTS
John Whelan and Michael Williams' top 12 finishes led the WSU men to a sixth place finish while the Cougar women were 10th at the Pac-12 Championships, Oct. 30 at the Colfax Golf Club...Whelan (junior, Etna, Calif.) finished ninth in the men's 8000m race (23:26.3)...Williams (sophomore, Richland, Wash.) finished 12th (23:29.2)...Whelan and WIlliams' places accorded them All-Pac-12 second team honors...in the women's 6k, WSU senior CharLee Linton (Shoreline, Wash.) was the top Cougar finisher at 36th (20:51.5).
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men's program and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho's Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles.
ALLIX POTRATZ-LEE, ASSISTANT COACH
Allix Potratz-Lee joined the WSU track and field coaching staff in July 2014 after an outstanding career as a student-athlete and coach at the University of Idaho... member of the Idaho cross country/track and field coaching staff starting in 2010 as an assistant to Wayne Phipps, working primarily with the distance corps...Vandals' women's cross country team won WAC team titles in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.. she was a five-time WAC champion, a 10-time first-team all-WAC honoree and a two-time ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American...she helped Idaho cross country capture the 2005 and 2007 XC team titles,and claimed the 2008 individual WAC cross country crown.

At the 2014 NCAA West Regionals Championships at the Stanford Golf Course, the WSU men finished 13th out of 29 teams and the Cougar women's team was 13th out of 34 teams...current Cougar men and their 2014 finishes on the 10k course: John Whelan, 2nd WSU, 54th overall (30:32.5), Jackson Haselnus, 4th WSU, 78th overall (31:06.7), Conner Johnsen, 5th WSU, 97th overall (31:21.1), Sam Levora, 6th WSU, 111th overall (31:33.2)...current WSU women and their 2014 places on the 6k course: CharLee Linton, 2nd WSU, 66th overall (21:36.4), Ashlie Standow, 3rd WSU, 80th overall (21:48.9), Devon Bortfeld, 4th WSU, 82nd overall (21:49.5), Morgan Willson, 5th WSU, 99th overall (22:05.6), Emily Dwyer, 6th WSU, 123rd overall (22:26.8), and Steffie Pavey, 7th WSU, 171st overall (23:07.2).
