WSU Volleyball Drops Four-set Match to No. 8 UCLA
October 31, 2015 | Volleyball
PULLMAN, Wash. -- In spite of McKenna Woodford and Kyra Holt's double-doubles, the Washington State volleyball team (14-9 overall, 3-8 Pac-12) was not able to get its offensive production in high gear Friday night, falling in four sets to No. 8 UCLA (18-3, 9-2) in Bohler Gym. Set scores were 25-13, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-16.
Woodford, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz., had 13 kills and 10 digs while junior Kyra Holt (Hercules, Calif.) tallied 11 kills and 17 digs. Hailey Bethune add 10 kills and led the Cougars with three blocks. Haley MacDonald set up 40 assists and Kate Sommer led WSU with 18 digs.
UCLA's Jordan Anderson led the match with 20 kills (.311) and Reily Buechler had 16 kills (.342) and 10 digs. Zana Muno had 37 assist and 12 digs while Taylor Formico had 17 digs. Claire Felix led the match with six blocks.
WSU out-dug the Bruins 66 to 60 while both teams landed four aces. UCLA hit .271 for the match and held WSU to a .087 hitting percentage. The Bruins won in the team blocks category nine to five.
“There definitely was some inconsistency offensively and I think that's why we put so many different people in just trying to get a flow,” Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “I really didn't think our blocking was up to what it has been, but there were some good things. I thought McKenna Woodford did a pretty nice job; she had a double-double, 13 kills and 10 digs. We out-dug them for probably the first time in quite a few matches. Our defense was good, just blocking and our offensive numbers need to pick up.”
