Emmy Allen to Tour China on Pac-12 Volleyball All-Star Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State rising sophomore volleyball player Emmy Allen is a member of the Pac-12 Conference All-Star volleyball team touring China this June, the conference announced Wednesday.
Allen, a 6-2 outside hitter from Mill Creek, Wash., was a 2013 Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention team selection. Allen contributed 166 kills, had a .231 hitting percentage and added 1.84 points per set seeing action in 100 of WSU's 123 sets. Allen was one of the six members of the Cougars' 2013 freshman class which was ranked 14th-best nationally by PrepVolleyball.com.
The summer all-star team will play seven matches over two weeks in Sanming and Beijing. The team will practice in Los Angeles before arriving in Shanghai, China, June 17. After a day of sightseeing, the team travels to Sanming. Pac-12 student-athletes will face off against the professional team from Fujian Province and the Chinese Junior National Team in Sanming from June 18-21, and play the professional team from Beijing and the Chinese Junior National Team again in Beijing from June 24-26. The team will return to the United States on June 27.
In addition to the matches, the student-athletes will enjoy cultural and sightseeing visits in China. Highlights include visits to the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Silk Market.
This is the second summer the conference has sponsored a China tour with Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny and Marcelina Glab on the 2013 tour.
"I'm excited and nervous at the same time," Allen said. "I'm excited to get to play at that level but nervous about going to a different country for the first time and not really knowing my teammates yet. But it's going to be a good experience. I hear the professional teams in China are amazing, that's what Marcelina told me last year. I think seeing that level of play and seeing a similar level in the Pac-12 will get me ready to play for WSU this Fall."
The all-star team was selected by the coaching staff and Pac-12 liaison and includes three freshmen, six sophomores and three juniors. In total, 11 of the 12 universities in the Conference are represented. The team features one libero, two setters, three middle blockers and six outside hitters. Five of the student-athletes traveling to China were voted All-Pac-12 this year, as well as three who received AVCA All-America honors. The coaching staff included Oregon's Jim Moore and assistant coach Stacy Metro, and Arizona assistant coach Charita Stubbs.
