FAIRFAX, Calif. – In gusty conditions at the Meadow Club, the Washington State University men's golf team concluded play in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, finishing 11th in the 16-team tournament. The Cougars carded a 303 (+19) in the final round, bringing their three-round score to 870 (+18). WSU finished two strokes ahead of 12th-place Saint Mary's (+20, 872) and two strokes back from 10th-place San Francisco (+16, 868).

Junior Evan Omelia led the Cougars, shooting 3-over (216) in the tournament. Omelia finished tied for 28th after providing an opening-round 64 (-7) with nine birdies. Freshman Derek Bayley finished two strokes back from Omelia, tying for 35th. Bayley opened the tournament 4-under par (67) before finishing 5-over (218).

All five Cougars provided counting scores in the tournament, including second- and third-round scores from freshman Brian Mogg, in his first start with the team. In the final round of play, Mogg and sophomore Nick Mandell led the Cougars, shooting 4-over (75) on the par-71 course. Mandell finished the tournament 8-over (221) and tied for 52nd. Mogg carded a three-round 223 (+1) to finish tied for 60th. Redshirt-senior Sang Lee tied Mogg at 223. A second-round 69 (-2) highlighted Lee's tournament.

“Unfortunately, today we didn't play our best,” Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “We have to work on finishing out our rounds and do a better job of playing consistent throughout the tournament.”

The Cougars will return to California for their next tournament, traveling to Simi Valley for the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 20-21.
