T&F Wins Seven Events Saturday at Idaho Open II

MOSCOW - Washington State competitors won seven events Saturday at the Idaho Open II indoor track and field meet at the Kibbie-ASUI Center in Moscow, Idaho.

Cougar women won six events at the meet being used as a tune-up before the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Seattle Feb. 22-23.

In the triple jump, Shantae Young (junior, Oak Harbor, Wash.), competing for the first time this season after an injury, won with a leap of 38-feet 2 inches (11.63m) and Kayla Warren finished second with a season-best mark of 37-6 3/4 (11.45m). Kristine Felix (freshman, Wailuku, Hawai'i) won the pole vault after clearing the top height of 12-3 1/2 (3.75m). Ksenija Marovic was the runner-up with an indoor PR mark of 11-9 3/4 (11.60m). Essence White (freshman, Tracy, Calif.) won the women's long jump with a PR distance of 17-7 (5.36m) and Christiana Ekelem took third with a PR mark of 17-2 3/4 (5.25m).

On the track, Shaquana Logan (senior, Tacoma) won the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 8.79 seconds, followed by Morgan Clem, running unattached, in 9.04, and Andrea Smith (9.28).

Amanda Henderson (freshman, Pullman) won the 800m in a time of 2 minutes 22.77 seconds. Freshmen CharLee Linton (Shorewood, Wash.) and Abby Knight (Vancouver, Wash.) finished one-two in the 3000m with Linton's winning time of 10:37.78 a PR time.

Trevor Rogers (senior, Richmond, Calif.) won the men's long jump with a season-best distance of 22-10 1/2 (6.97m). Tay'lor Eubanks finished third in the long jump with a PR mark of 21-8 1/4 (6.61m).

Holly Parent was tied for first in the women's high jump with a height of 5-7 (1.70m) but did not clear a bar in the jump-off and Jordan Ward (unattached) took the win.

Austin Sodorff (freshman, Woodinville, Wash.) was the runner-up in the men's pole vault after cleared the bar equal to his PR mark of 15-5 (4.70m). Sodorff had cleared the next height of 16-0 (4.88m) on his final attempt but brushed the bar with his hand on his descent.

Washington State track and field teams will compete at the MPSF Championships Feb. 22 and 23, at the Dempsey Indoor on the Washington campus in Seattle. Streaming video and live results will be available online.
