MOSCOW - Washington State junior Drew Jordan won the men's mile in a lifetime-best time and led four additional Cougars to lifetime or season-best times Friday at the Idaho Collegiate II meet at the Kibbie-ASUI Center in Moscow.
For Jordan, from Medford, Ore., Friday's race marked his first meet back in the Cougar uniform after a respiratory ailment placed him as an unattached competitor at the beginning of the indoor season. Jordan's winning time was a PR of 4 minutes 4.64 seconds followed by Justin Englund finished fifth in a PR time of 4:08.98. Other Cougar milers included Richard Shroy, 12th in a time of 4:17.47, and Forrest Shaffer, 18th in PR time of 4:22.37.
Aric Walden (sophomore, Newport, Wash.) won the men's 60m hurdles in a time of 8.25, followed by Ramsey Hopkins with a second-place time of 8.31. Brett Blanshan ran the top time in the 60m dash prelims of 7.05 but his 7.13 in the final was fourth. He came back later in the evening to win the 200m dash in a time of 21.85, with Rashaun Johnson third in a season-best 22.30 and Paul Newland fifth in a PR time of 22.89.
The men's 4x400m relay team of freshmen Andre McBride, Byron Howell and Matthew Swanson won in a time of 3:18.88.
Although the Cougars had a limited number of field event competitors, weight throwers Travis Pickett and Chris Baltazar both tossed lifetime-best marks. Pickett, a freshman from Snohomish threw the 35-pound weight a distance of 55-feet, 1 inch (16.80m) for fifth and Baltazar heaved the ball a distance of 54-7 (16.65m) for seventh.
Shaquana Logan, a senior from Tacoma, won the women's 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.72 with Morgan Clem, running unattached, second in 8.90 and Andrea Smith third in a season-best time of 9.11.
Sophomore transfer Bree Winfrey (Mission Hills, Calif.) won the women's 400m dash with a season-best time of 56.27 while freshman Mercedes Smith was the runner-up in a PR time of 57.12. In the 200m dash, Christiana Ekelem took third in a time of 25.40 and Indigo Williams with eighth in a PR time of 26.23.
The women's 4x400m relay squad of freshmen Dominique Keel, Ekelem, Smith and Kris Tollefson won in a time of 3:50.08, just off their freshman school record time of 3:49.62 run last month in Nampa.
In the field, Mary Barnett took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 44-11 (13.69m) and Ashley Kenney finished third in the discus with a season-best distance of 147-0 (44.80m).
A limited number of Washington State track and field athletes will compete Saturday in the Idaho Open at the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center.
