MERIDIAN, Idaho - Washington State's Sang Lee, a redshirt sophomore, broke the school record for lowest single-round score by carding a 63 in the second round of the Boise State University Dash Thomas Memorial on Monday. The Washington State men's golf team ramped up its performance in the second round of the tournament and took the overall lead after the first day of competition. The Cougar men finished 7-under par for the day, with one final round left to play Tuesday.

Lee's record-breaking and career-low mark of 63 (-8) was the best score in the first two rounds. Lee concluded Monday tied for ninth place in the 74-athlete field.

The WSU men's team also appreciated steady performances from sophomore Michael Anderson and senior Hank Frame. Anderson carded scores of 68 and 70 to end the day with a team-leading score of 138 (-4). Frame finished close behind with rounds of 69 and 70 (-3, 139). Anderson is tied for third and Frame is tied for sixth.

"We didn't start out very well today," Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "Our guys didn't look sharp in the opening round. As the day went on, we looked a lot better as a whole. Sang Lee was just awesome. We needed someone to step up - other guys were playing solid, but nobody was playing great. Sang's performance was big for us today. We will need to get off to a better start tomorrow."

The Cougar men's team, which leads all 12 other competing teams, rests two strokes ahead of Utah Valley (-5) going into Tuesday's final round. Winthrop (-3) and San Jose State (-1) round out the lineup of teams that completed the first two rounds under par.

The tournament will be concluded with the third and final round Tuesday, which will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Results will be posted at wsucougars.com at the conclusion of the competition.
