Individual Results Rounds 1&2
BREMERTON, Wash. - Sang Lee led the Washington State men's golf team in the first two rounds of the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational on Monday at Gold Mountain Golf Club, finishing tied for third after carding marks of 68 and 74 (-2). The WSU men concluded the first day of competition in sixth place in the 15-team tournament with a team score of 17-over par.
Lee, a redshirt sophomore on the Cougar men's squad, launched himself atop the player leaderboard after the tournament's first round with his score to par of 4-under. He finished the day 2-under par and tied for third. Lee was joined in the top 10 on the player leaderboard by junior Blake Snyder, a fellow Cougar. Snyder similarly dominated the first 18 holes, as he was 3-under and tied for second going into the second round. He finished tied for 10th in the 75-man field at 1-over.
That seemed to be the story across the board for the WSU men over the span of the first 36 holes. Conditions at Gold Mountain were worse in the morning and improved as the afternoon progressed, but the performance by the men's team was the opposite.
"Our guys played really well on the first 18 holes," Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "Sang and Blake were amazing. They hit great shot after great shot. Conditions got better later in the afternoon, but we played well below our ability. We have some things to clean up for tomorrow."
Host team Washington, which leads the tournament after the first day, was the only competing team to top the Cougar men in the first two rounds. Oregon and Arizona State sit behind WSU at seventh and tied for eighth, respectively. Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington is first on the player leaderboard after the day with a score to par of 9-under. Washington leads the team leaderboard at 3-under.
The individuals sent to compete from each team are considered to be in a separate tournament from the teams, as they are competing at a different course. Alex Wagner of WSU finished the first two rounds of the individuals' tournament at 3-over par and tied for sixth. Jarrett Foote, also an individual, finished tied for 13th at 5-over.
Tee times for the final round Tuesday at Gold Mountain begin at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will once again be available at golfstat.com, and full tournament results and recap will be posted following tournament play at wsucougars.com.
