Final Results
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Washington State men's golf team finished the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational in fifth place, Sunday.
In the final round the Cougars scored a 300 (+12) to finish the three-round competition with a team score of 878 (+14). This score was good enough to best six other teams, including a team from Michigan State, whose program is ranked 90th nationally.
Host Iowa was named the tournament champion carding a total score of 840 (-24). The tournament victor was Iowa State's Nate McCoy who recorded a cumulative score of 202 (-14).
Turning in his second-straight top finish for Washington State was sophomore Kent Hagen. Hagen finished tied for 11th by carding a 73 (+1) in the third round to bring his two-day total to 216 (E).
"Kent had a really good tournament," commented Cougar head coach Garrett Clegg. "He played really solid, he was really steady each round."
Other stand-outs from Washington State were senior Trent Sanders and junior Hank Frame. Both golfers recorded a 73 (+1) in the final round. Sanders finished the tournament tied for 18th (218, +2) while Frame placed tied for 21st (219, +3).
"It was a good tournament for us," stated Clegg. "The guys played well. Today we dropped back a little more than we would've liked, but overall it was a good performance by the team. This tournament was a good momentum builder for us going into the Pac-12 Championships."
Rounding out the competing Cougar golfers are freshman Michael Anderson, tied for 39th (226, +10) and senior Branden Dalton, tied for 57th (233, +17).
The Washington State men's golf team returns to action when it travel to Corvallis, Ore., April 27-29, to compete in the Pac-12 Championships.
