FRESNO, Calif. - In his competitive collegiate debut, Washington State redshirt-freshman Sang Lee shot a 67 in the opening round of the Fresno State Lexus Classic, Monday.
Lee's 5-under par put him in first place of the tournament heading into the second round of the day. Lee finished rounds one and two at 1-under (tied for 20th).
"Sang was just phenomenal," commented Cougar head coach Garrett Clegg. "He was rock solid, and had a great day. I'm really happy for him."
After the completion of rounds one and two, the Cougars sit in fourth place with a 3-under 717, only two shots back from second place. Oregon State currently sits on top of the leader board with a 13-under 707. Sacramento State and UC Irvine are tied for second with a 5-under 715.
Senior Trent Sanders and freshman Michael Anderson lead Washington State, both carding a 3-under 141 for the day (tied for 10th).
"We had a great start to the day with a great first round," Clegg added. "We came out a little flat on our second 18, but we finished well."
Other Cougars competing are sophomore Kent Hagen, tied for 33rd (145, +1), senior Branden Dalton, tied for 47th (147, +3) and junior Hank Frame, tied for 79th (153, +9).
The third and final round is slated to begin Tuesday, with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. on the first and 10th holes.
