STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington State men's golf team moved up four places in the standings of the U.S. Intercollegiate, ending the day in a tie for 10th, Saturday.
Playing in rough winds and harsh weather conditions, the Cougars recorded a second round score of 297 (+17) to give them a two-day total of 591 (+31).
"The guys played great in tough conditions," stated Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg. "It was a brutal day with the wind and weather, but the guys battled through it and played well."
Cougar sophomore Kent Hagen currently leads the team after a 2-over (72) performance in round two. His two-round total of 147 (+7) puts him in a tie for 42nd individually.
Washington State teammates junior Hank Frame and freshman Michael Anderson closely follow Hagen, both finishing the second day of competition in a tie for 45th (148, +8). Frame recorded a second round score of 77 (+7) while Anderson carded a 74 (+4).
Cougar senior Trent Sanders, tied for 49th (149, +9) and redshirt-freshman Sang Lee, tied for 77th (155, +15) round out the Washington State team.
Clegg added, "Tomorrow we need to just keep up the momentum to have a great final round."
Oregon is the current tournament leader, with only one round left to play. The Ducks turned in a score of 284 (+4) in the second round, which brings their two-round total to 556 (-4).
The third and final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate is slated to begin Sunday, with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m., on the first and 10th holes.
