SEATTLE -- Washington State University's Joe Abbott ran a season-best 800m time at the UW Final Qualifier Track & Field meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility, but it was not fast enough to propel him into the NCAA Championships.

Abbott, a senior from Reno, ran a season-best 800m time of 1-minute, 48.65 seconds which was the winning time at the meet. His time is 19th fastest in the NCAA DI descending order list coming into this weekend's competition with the usual number of participants per event around 14.

In the men's high jump, Shawn Swartz (junior, Port Coquitlam, B.C.) cleared 6-feet, 9 inches (2.06m), as did Ross VanZanten (senior redshirt, Longview, Wash.) who was competing unattached.

Other WSU competitors in Seattle Saturday included Ryan Barrett (senior, Graham, Wash.) who won the 400m in a personal-best time of 48.74 seconds, and Nick Smith (senior, Graham, Wash.), running unattached, who ran the 800m in a time of 1:56.49.

The NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 9 and 10, in Boise, where WSU's lone participant will be Stephan Scott-Ellis (junior, Tacoma), who has top-10 national marks in both the long jump and triple jump.
