BRADENTON, Fla. - The Washington State men's golf team placed 14th at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at The Concession Golf Club, Tuesday.
In their fourth, and final, match of the tournament, the No. 16 seed Cougars fell to the No. 15 seed UNC Wilmington 3.5-1.5.
Washington State junior Hank Frame defeated UNC Wilmington's Ryan Nagy 2-up. This is the second win of the tournament for Frame, who also won his first-round match against Arkansas' Austin Cook 2 and 1.
Cougar tournament stand-out Sang Lee, a redshirt-freshman starting in only his second collegiate competition, halved the final round with the Seahawks' Thomas Bass. Lee came into the final match 3-0 through the first two days of competition.
Sophomore Kent Hagen recorded two wins in the four-round tournament, picking up victories in the second and third rounds and freshman teammate Michael Anderson took his third-round match, to compile 8.5 total victories for Washington State.
Top-seeded Arkansas won the 2012 team title by defeating third-seeded Duke in the championship match, 3.5-1.5.
"We had a rough day, but we had a great trip overall," stated Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg. "We learned a lot form this trip and it boosts our confidence going into next week's match."
The Cougars return to competition when they travel to Eugene, Ore., March 26-27, to participate in the Duck Invitational.
