Day One Results 
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Freshman Michael Anderson shot a 7-under, 65 in the first round to highlight the Washington State men's golf team performance during the first-36 holes of the ReBath Snowman Getaway at Palm Valley Golf Course, Monday.
Anderson's score tied him for second all-time on the Cougar freshman and school record list for best round. Kevin Chen carded a 64 as a freshman in March, 2004 during a tournament in Huntsville, Texas.
In the afternoon, gusty wind dramatically affected play as only 13 student-athletes in the 96-person field recorded a better score in the second round. Anderson's second round 77 was 5-over and put him at 2-under for the tournament, alone in fourth place.
Mario Clemens and Jay Hwang, both from UCLA and playing as individuals, lead the tournament with 18 holes remaining at 5-under, 139. Colin Chapman from UNC Greensboro is one shot back of the leaders and two strokes ahead of Anderson. Nathan Hughes of UMKC is the only other student-athlete under par (-1) and sits in fifth place.
Hughes and his Kangaroo teammates lead the tournament at 16-over, 592. Missouri State is three shots behind and British Columbia is four strokes off the pace.
Just two strokes separate fourth place from ninth place. St. John's is 24-over, 600 with Utah Valley, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and UNC Greensboro at 25-over. Washington State and Loyola (Md.) are at 26-over and trail the leader by 10 shots.
Washington State's Trent Sanders is tied for 34th at 8-over, 152. Other Cougars competing are Branden Dalton, Kyle Hurt, both at 10-over and Alex Wagner (+16).
A pair of Cougars competing as individuals are Kent Hagen is (+6) and Jarrett Foote is (+12).
