LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Washington State sophomore Kristen Rue posted the best score in the final round for the Cougars (73, +1) in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Tuesday. The women's team finished in 15th place overall.
Rue's 73 in the final round tied as the best single-round score for the WSU women's team all tournament (senior Emma Betland shot the same score in the second round). Rue finished tied for 42nd place at 16-over par. Betland had the best three-round score on the Cougar women's team for the tournament (229). Her score to par of 13-over left her tied for 33rd place.
WSU was 13-over in the final round, which was their best single-round score for the tournament. Though they finished in 15th place, they outscored eight other teams in the 18-team field in the final round and tied two more. The Cougar women finished 65-over par for the competition. In the final tournament standings, Washington State closed out 15th place ahead of New Mexico State (16th, +73), Colorado State (17th, +81), and North Texas (18th, +90).
"Although we got off to a rough start, our players fought hard and closed with a solid round," Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "We left a lot of shots out there this week, but we look forward to continuing our fall season next week in Hawaii."
The WSU women's golf team will close out its fall season next week at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu. The tournament will be hosted by Hawaii and will run from October 30-31.
