Cougar Men in Second, Tournament Play Suspended

Oct. 22, 2012

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Darkness caused the suspension of the second round of play in the Bill Cullum Invitational Monday in Simi Valley, Calif. The Washington State men's golf team concluded the day in second place, just two strokes behind San Diego, with the remainder of the second round and the entire final round to play Tuesday.

Cougar senior Hank Frame had the team's best performance through the first round and the completed portion of the second round. Frame was individually able to finish all 36 holes before the darkness delay, and finished the first day of the tournament at 3-under par. Redshirt sophomore Sang Lee finished the day with six holes left to play in his second round. At the time of the delay, however, Lee was also 3-under par. Frame and Lee were tied for third place at the end of the first day, leading the WSU men's team.

Sophomore Michael Anderson joined Frame and Lee in the tournament's top 10 at the time of the delay (tied for 10th). Anderson, like Frame, was able to finish the second round completely prior to the darkness suspension. The sophomore carded a score to par of even through the first 36 holes.

"We did some really good things overall today," Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "We had some really good moments. We also had a few bad holes that hurt us. But the weather was tough - it was a windy, tough day. Hank Frame and Sang Lee were great all day long."

The WSU men's team sat in second place on the team leaderboard after the first day, with a team score to par of 2-under. San Diego, the leading team, was 4-under. Among the field of 18 teams that were bested by the Cougar men after day one was Pac-12 Conference opponent Arizona State (even par).

Players who did not complete the second round will finish their remaining holes Tuesday morning before the start of the third and final round. Final round tee times were originally scheduled to start at 7 a.m., and no official word has been issued otherwise. Live results will be available during tournament play at golfstat.com, and results will be posted online at wsucougars.com at the conclusion of the competition.
