PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior Brandi Vega's goal in the 17th minute provided Washington State a 1-0 victory over visiting Seattle in nonconference women's soccer, Sunday at Lower Soccer Field.

The win for the Cougars (2-1-0) came in front of 1,273, setting a Washington State record for single-match home attendance. It was the eighth-largest crowd to witness a Cougar soccer victory all-time.

"We have learned a lot about ourselves over the first couple of weekend," Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter said. "Our fans gave us a tremendous environment today. A big thanks goes out to them for their support. We definitely have some pieces in place to build upon."

Vega's scored her goal in the box on the left side after receiving a long through ball from Eileen Maes. It was the fifth game-winner of her career, tying for seventh all-time at Washington State. Seven of her eight-career goals have tied a match or given the Cougars the lead, tied for 10th time on the WSU career list.

Washington State controlled possession for most of the match and outshot Seattle (3-1-0) 12-4. The Cougars held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Redhawks did have a chance for the equalizer in the final 15 seconds, but Taylor Bolibol's shot off a scramble in the box hit the bottom of the crossbar.

The Cougars conclude their homestand with matches against Wyoming, Friday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. and Weber State, Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.
