Cougars in Scoring Positions after Pac-10 Heptathlon First Day

TUCSON -- Washington State's Shaquana Logan and Angela Jensen are in scoring positions after completing the first day of the heptathlon at the Pacific-10 Conference Track and Field Combined Events Championships at the University of Arizona's Drachman Stadium Friday night.

Logan, a sophomore from Tacoma making her debut in the heptathlon, has a first-day total of 3,121 points for fifth place, while Jensen, a senior from Tacoma, has a first day total of 3,043 points which is seventh out of the 12 competitors. Leading the heptathlon after the first four events is Samantha Henderson, a senior from Arizona State, with 3,396 points. Two-time defending heptathlon champion, Oregon senior Brianne Theisen, was entered but is not competing in this heptathlon.

Logan ran a 100m hurdles time of 13.83 seconds, equal to her non-wind-aided lifetime-best time, high jumped a PR height of 5-feet, 3 inches (1.60m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 30-8 1/2 (9.36m), and ran the 200m in a PR time of 24.92, third-best of the field.

Jensen opened with a 100m hurdles time of 14.20 seconds, high jumped 5-0 1/2 (1.54m), threw the shot put a distance of 33-4 3/4 (10.18m), and ran the 200m dash in a season-best time of 25.13.

In the decathlon, Sean Harris, a redshirt sophomore from Kent, Wash., scored a total of 3,487 points in the first five events for ninth place among the 15 competitors. Jeremy Taiwo, a junior at Washington, leads the decathlon with 4,215 points after the first day.

Harris ran the 100m dash in a time of 11.53 seconds, long jumped a PR distance of 20-7 (6.27m), threw the shot put a distance of 43-5 1/4 (13.24m), cleared a PR height of 6-4 (1.93m) in the high jump which was fourth-best of the day, and ran the 400m in a time of 53.21.

The combined events championship competition resumes Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. with the meet expected to conclude after 10 p.m.
