TEMPE, Ariz. -
Washington State University shot a score of 323 during first-round play at the 2011 Pacific-10 Conference Championships Sunday, played on the par 72, 6,230-yard Karsten Golf Course.
In a field that includes five teams ranked among the top 10 nationally, the Cougars ended the first round in 10th place. No. 2 USC and No. 24 Stanford share the first-round lead after each shot a 6-under par, 282, to open the tournament. No. 1 UCLA (284) is two shots back while No. 33 Oregon (290) and No. 7 Arizona (290) are tied for fourth.
The Cougars were led by sophomore Emma Betland, who shot and opening round 6-over, 78. Betland's score places her in a tie for 37th. Freshman Mallory Kent is two shots behind as she carded an 80 in her first round, placing her in a tie for 43rd.
Senior Allison Travis is tied for 45th after her opening round of 81 while junior Kristen Allard is alone in 48th after a Sunday score of 84. Sophomore Ali Thompson is tied for 49th as she shot an 85 Sunday.
Second-round play at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships resumes Monday morning.
