BALL GROUND, Ga. - The Cougars bounced back on Monday to take the match against seventh-seeded Texas at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship.
Washington State, seeded 14th, beat the Longhorns 3-2 to earn their first win at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in the third-round.
Three Cougars won their match ups today, freshman Kent Hagen, sophomore Hank Frame and junior Branden Dalton.
"After tying Georgia Tech and losing a close one to Iowa, we finally broke through against Texas," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. "Kent (Hagen) won against Frittelli and Hank (Frame) and Branden (Dalton) won close matches to pull out a 3 to 2 win."
The Cougars will take on the Gamecocks of South Carolina in the final round Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
