Cougars Conclude Play at Peg Barnard Invitational

Final Results.

Junior Kristen Allard fired a WSU-best 5-over 76 Sunday to pace Washington State University women's golf team during the final day of play at the 2011 Peg Barnard Invitational, competed on the par 71, 6,148-yard Stanford Golf Course.

The tournament began Saturday but was suspended midway through the first round due to inclement weather. That forced the field to conclude first-round play this morning then immediately begin the second and final round.

The Cougars finished the event in ninth place following a final-round 316 (+33). It marked an eight-stroke improvement over their first-round score and gave WSU a two-day total of 640 (+72). No. 9 California won the tournament by 18 strokes over No. 27 Stanford as it finished the two-day tournament at 579 (+11). Five of the tournament's 10 teams were ranked among the top 30 nationally.

Allard finished the tournament tied for 28th with a two-round score of 155 (+13). She was followed in the Cougar lineup by sophomore Emma Betland, who posted a two-day score of 161 (+19) and tied for 43rd. Betland did improve her second-round score by five strokes after opening with an 83. Sophomore Ellen Park also showed improvement from the first to second round, ending with an 80 (+9), an improvement of two strokes from round one. She finished tied for 48th with a total of 162 (+20).

Freshman Mallory Kent completed her two rounds tied for 53rd with a total score of 163 (+21). Her best round of the event was an 80 to open the tournament. Senior Allison Travis showed a three-stroke improvement from round one to two as she ended with an 82 (+11), giving her a two-day total of 167 (+25), tied for 58th.

WSU also had three players competing as individuals with sophomore Ali Thompson leading the way as her two-round total of 162 (+20) tied with teammate Ellen Park for 48th. Thompson shot a 77 (+6) in round two, the second-best round by a Cougar during the weekend. Freshman Brenda Jeserning finished tied for 63rd as she completed the two-day tournament with a score of 173 (+31) while sophomore Julia Manseau ended her two rounds with a score of 199 (+57).

The Cougars are next in action Feb. 28 - March 2 when they compete in the Bruin Wave Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif.
