Washington State sophomore Jarrett Foote ended the day in a three-way tie for 10th at 5-over (221), six shots back of the tournament champion, Jay Myers of San Jose State. Foote shot a 75 in each of the first two rounds, and had his best round in the third, with a 1-under par (71).
The Cougars had their best showing in the third round when they carded a 5-over, 293. That score was strong enough to be the third best round of the day, and the fourth best round from any school in the tournament.
"We played more like us today" commented Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg. "We took good shots. We may have had a few mistakes, but overall we had solid play from our guys."
Talking about the tournament as a whole Clegg added "We learned a lot. You learn more from your challenges and struggles than you do from your successes. Hopefully we came out of this tournament a better team."
Other Cougars competing in the tournament were Hank Frame and Branden Dalton who both finished at 14-over (230), tied for 44th; Trent Sanders and Michael Anderson (competing as an individual), both finishing at 15-over (231), tied for 49th; and Kent Hagen finishing at 24-over (240), tied for 74th.
The Cougars return to action Oct. 17-18 when they travel to Fairfax, Calif., to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
