Cougar Men's Golf Completes First Day in California

Oct. 17, 2011

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Washington State junior Hank Frame finished tied for 18th place after the first two rounds of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by California.

Frame ended the day at 4-under, after breaking even in the first round and carding his lowest round score as a Cougar (67) in the second. Frame currently sits 10 shots back from the leader at 138. Freshman Michael Anderson also had a solid outing, finishing the day at 2-under (140), tied for 26th.

Frame and senior teammate Trent Sanders both started the day strong, each getting an eagle in round one. Sanders finished the day tied for 62nd at 4-over (146).

Collectively, Washington State (+1) sits as the 14th team in the 16-team field, with a score of 569. Other Cougars competing in the tournament are senior Branden Dalton (+3, 145), tied for 57th and sophomore Kent Hagen (+12, 154) in 79th place.

"We had a great start, but a rough finish," Washington State Head Coach Garrett Clegg stated. "We had two guys play well today, but we need all of us to play great to move up to where we want to be. Our shooting, chipping and wedging were all ok today, but our putting has to be better. We are giving up too many shots on the green."

Second-ranked Oregon (-30) leads the tournament at 538, with one round remaining. The final round is slated to begin Tuesday at 7:45 a.m.
