Jensen and Scott-Ellis Win at Cougar Track & Field Invite

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State's Angela Jensen won the women's pentathlon and Stephen Scott-Ellis won the men's long jump Friday night at the Cougar Indoor Invitational, a two-day meet held at WSU's Indoor Facility.

Jensen, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., scored 3,543 points. She won the 60m hurdles in 8.63 seconds, high jumped 5-feet, 2 1/4 inches (1.58m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 33-5 3/4 (10.20m), long jumped17-1 1/2 (5.22m) which equaled her PR, and ran the 800m in a time of 2-minutes, 31.15 seconds. Jensen's Friday total was 45 points under her lifetime-best of 3,588 points. Utah State's Chari Hawkins finished second with 3,460 points, with Aggie teammates Jennifer Scheiss (2,969 points) and Camille Fehlberg (2,878 points) third and fourth respectively.

Scott-Ellis, a sophomore from Tacoma, long jumped a season-best 24-0 3/4 (7.33m) to win the event. Damian Szade, Utah State, was second with a leap of 23-6 1/4 (7.17m) and WSU's Ramsey Hopkins finished third with a mark of 22-1 3/4 (6.75m).

In scoring event finals Friday night, Sonia Grabowska from Utah State, won the women's pole vault with a clearance at 13-3 3/4 (4.06m) while WSU's Hiliary Moore finished second with a height of 11-10 (3.61m). Cougars Carly Fitzpatrick and Kelsey Bueno both cleared 11-4 1/4 (3.46m) with Fitzpatrick third on few missed attempts and Bueno fourth.

Gabby Middles, Idaho, won the women's 20-pound weight throw with a heave of 57-7 (17.55m) as WSU's Kjirsten Jensen was the runner-up with a best toss of 55-5 (16.89m) and Cougar Cassie Whitfield fourth after throwing 55-1 1/2 (16.80m). Spencer Hall, from Utah State, won the men's weight throw with a best toss of 53-4 1/2 (16.27m).

After four events in the men's heptathlon, WSU's Sean Harris is the leader with 2,928 points, followed by Philip Noble of Utah State with 2,535 points, and Cougar Josiah Sims with 1,970 points. It was a banner day for Harris, a junior from Kent, Wash. He opened with a PR time in the 60m dash of 7.40, equaled his lifetime-best in the long jump of 20-9 3/4 (6.34m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 44-10 3/4 (13.68m), and cleared a PR height of 6-7 (2.01m) in the high jump. The heptathlon continues Saturday morning with the 60m hurdles, the pole vault, and the 1,000m run.

The Cougar Indoor Invitational meet, a team scoring meet between WSU, Idaho, Montana and Utah State, continues Saturday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m. with the remaining field and all the running events. Spectator admission and parking is free of charge.
