Betland Leads Cougar Women at Season-Opening Event

WORLEY, Idaho - Sophomore Emma Betland led the Washington State University women's golf team at the season-opening Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational at the Circling Raven Golf Club, Monday.

Betland is currently in a tie for 16th with a 54-hole total of 151 (+7) at the par-72, 6,106-yard course, and is just three strokes back of the top 10 entering Tuesday's final round. Betland posted an opening-round 76 (+4), and then moved up one place with a second-round 75 (+3).

Sophomore Ellen Park also shot 75 (+3) in the second round, shooting up the leaderboard into a tie for 26th after completing the first round in a tie for 38th.

Freshman Mallory Kent, playing in her first collegiate tournament, opened the event with a 4-over 76 and was in a tie for 17th. She is currently tied for 44th with a 156 (+12).

The Cougars currently sit in a tie for 10th in the 20-team field with a 619, and will enter the final round 10 strokes back of the top five.

Rounding out the Cougar contingent were junior Kristen Allard (159; +15) and redshirt senior Allison Travis (167; +23). Sophomore Ali Thompson, playing as an individual, recorded a two-round total of 155 (+11).

Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
