LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Washington State freshman Greg Hornsby won both the men's 100m and 200m Open races while J Hopkins and Veronica Elseroad-Wall won intermediate hurdles races Friday afternoon at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational Meet at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus.

Hornsby, from Moreno Valley, Calif., won the men's 100m dash in a time of 10.69 seconds, and came back and won the 200m dash in a time of 21.51. Both marks equaled his non-wind-aided lifetime-best times. A pair of Cougars also raced in the 200m Open: Brett Blanshan (freshman, Selah, Wash.) finished sixth in a time of 21.88, and Nate Washington (junior, Everett, Wash.) took 15th in a time of 22.42.

J Hopkins, a sophomore from Everett, Wash., won the men's 400m hurdles Open race with a season-best time of 52.96. Dana Wells, a freshman from Tieton, Wash., finished third in the same race in a time of 54.03.

Veronica Elseroad-Wall (junior, Casper, Wyo.) won the women's intermediate hurdles Open race with a PR time of 1:01.09. Brittnay Crabb (sophomore, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) finished fifth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:03.22.

Shawna Fermin, a freshman from Victorville, Calif., ran a PR time of 24.82 in the women's 200m Open race for sixth place while Morgan Clem (sophomore, East Wenatchee, Wash.), running unattached, finished 16th in the same event with a time of 25.33. Fermin also ran a season-best time in the 400m dash Open race, finishing third in a time of 55.33.

The Cougars will compete again Saturday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA, and a large group of WSU team members will compete at the Washington versus Oregon, Idaho and Montana III at Spokane Falls Community College.
