Cougars Complete First Round at Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. - Sophomore Emma Betland led the Washington State University women's golf team during the first day of play Monday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington.

As a team the Cougars finished the opening day 14th in the field following a score of 316.

Betland is tied for 31st after firing an opening-round 76 (+4) on the par-72, 6,078-yard Tacoma Country and Golf Club. Betland finished three strokes ahead of freshman teammate Mallory Kent, who shot a 79 (+7) in the first round and sits in a tie for 50th.

The three remaining Cougars finished with two strokes of each other as sophomore Ellen Park finished the day at 80 (+8), while junior Kristen Allard came in at 81 (+9) and sophomore Ali Thompson fired an 82 (+10).

Play continues at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with the second of three rounds.
