Woods and Garberg Double Winners at Vandal Indoor Track & Field Meet

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Washington State University's Justin Woods and McKenzie Garberg were double-winners Friday at the Vandal Indoor track and field meet in the Kibbie Dome.

Woods, a sophomore from Buena Vista, Calif., won the men's 200m dash with a personal record, NCAA Provisional Qualifying and Vandal Indoor meet record time of 21.23 seconds and was the first to break the tape in the 60m dash with a time of 6.79. In the 200m race, WSU's Jaycee Robertson also ran a PR time for second of 21.34 and Sadiki James placed eighth with a PR time of 22.71.

Garberg, a junior from Benton City, Wash., won the women's discus and the shot put. Garberg took the afternoon discus throw with a PR toss of 156-7 (47.72m) and came back to win the evening's shot put with a toss of 49-7 1/4 (15.12m).

Other Cougar women winners Friday included freshman Princess Joy Griffey with a PR time of 24.46 in the 200m, with La Shawnda Porter-Red second with a PR time of 24.96. Brandi Probasco-Canda won the 400m in a time of 57.03 with Selena Galaviz taking second with a time of 57.36, equaling her PR. Porter-Red, Lorraine King, Galaviz, and Nicole McClendon combined to win the women's 4x400m relay in a time of 4:02.12. Freshman Amy Quinones won the triple jump with a leap of 36-8 1/4 (11.18m).

Former WSU All-American and current Cougar volunteer assistant coach Tamara Diles won the women's pole vault with a leap of 14-0 (4.27m), breaking her own meet record.

WSU's Robert Williams won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.21. Reny Follett placed second in the 400m dash but with a PR time of 48.56.

Cougar senior Tyson Byers won the pole vault with a clearance at 17-1 (5.21m), which is an NCAA PQ but Byers has already cleared 17-5 this season. Cougar DJ Brown took fourth in the pole vault with a PR height of 15-1 1/2 (4.61m).

WSU All-American Matt Lamb won the men's discus with a toss of 190-10 (58.18m) while Drew Ulrick finished third with a PR of 185-1 (56.42m). Vic Asher placed third in the men's shot put with a PR toss of 53-4 1/4 (16.26m).

The Cougars will compete Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Moscow McDonald's Open, also at the Kibbie Dome on the University of Idaho campus.
