Five Cougars Win at Willie Williams Track Meet First Day

TUCSON, Ariz. - Washington State's track and field team opened the 2006 outdoor season winning five events at the Willie Williams Classic Track & Field Meet at the University of Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium Friday night.

Sophomore Jon Jeffreys (Spokane Valley, Wash.) won the men's javelin with an NCAA Regional Qualifying and personal-best throw of 213-feet, 4 inches (65.03m). Senior Jenna Dean won the women's javelin with an NCAA RQ toss of 160-feet, 8 inches (48.98m).

Catie Schuetzle (freshman, Spokane, Wash.) won the women's long jump with a PR leap of 19-feet, 6 inches (5.94m).

On the track, Cougar sprinter James McSwain (senior, Las Vegas) won the men's 200m dash with an NCAA RQ time of 21.19 seconds. John Cassleman (junior, Pullman) won the men's 400m hurdles with an NCAA RQ time of 51.83 seconds. WSU assistant coach and former All-American Ellannee Richardson, running for the Palouse Hills Track Club, won the women's 400m hurdles in a time of 57.79 seconds.

The Willie Williams Classic meet continues Saturday in Tucson.
