SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Washington State women's tennis team posted a 5-2 victory at San Diego, Thursday. The win improved the No. 73 Cougars to 7-8 while the No. 54 Toreros fel to 6-6.
Washington State won the doubles points and captured four of six singles matches to post the victory.
The Cougars started off the morning strong, with their No. 1 team of Ekateria Burduli and Nora Gaal as well as their No. 3 tandem of Amy Toth and Aleksandra Stefanova posting victories.
In singles action, Washington State went up 3-0 after Chris Martinez beat Lauren Perl 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot and Nora Gaal defeated Tara Livesay 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.
San Diego's No. 30 Emma Murphy closed the gap after she put away Burduli at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-2, but Orsolya Sallai managed to edge out Lauren Kazarian 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. at the No. 2 position to clinch the match for the Cougars.
WSU returns to action Friday against Marshall at USD.
