COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Washington State tennis team continue its success at the United States Air Force Academy Invitational, Saturday.
The Cougars will play for all five championships Sunday, including two flights where WSU players will face one another.
In flight one, Lorena Arias advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Laura Nigro of Air Force and a hard fought 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Lia Domingo of Colorado. She will play Dominique Lemperle of Colorado for the championship.
Chris Martinez breezed in flight two with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Air Force's Heather Shelby and a 6-0, 6-0 dismantling of Colorado's Kendra Strandemo. Martinez faces Oklahoma's Bethany Griffin for the title.
The Cougars dominated flight three, placing all three of their entries in the semifinals. Orsi Sallai advanced to the championship with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Air Force's Gina Black and a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Oklahoma's Joi-Lee Beachler.
Sallai will play fellow Cougar Zorana Roganovic in the title match. Roganovic posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jessica Braver of Oklahoma and then knocked off teammate Zsofi Fodor, 6-4, 6-2. Fodor reached the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Susan Johnson of Colorado and will play Beachler for third place.
In doubles play, the flight one title will go to WSU has Arias and Martinez will square off against Fodor and Gaal. Arias and Martinez cruised past Wyoming's Kati Gyulai and Patricia Chien 8-1 while Fodor and Gaal reached the championship with a 9-7 win over Air Force's Laura Nigro and Gina Black.
Sallai teamed with Melanie Humphrey for an 8-4 victory over Megan Williams of Wyoming and Roganovic to advance to the flight two championship. Their opponent will be Adriana Boykova and Tea Spirta of Texas-El Paso.
