BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Amit Tamir scored 17 points to lead California to a 90-57 victory over Washington State on Saturday.
Jamal Sampson and A.J. Diggs each had 12 points and Brian Wethers added 11 as the Bears (13-3, 4-2) handed the Cougars (4-11, 0-8) their 10th straight defeat. Sampson, a 6-foot-11 freshman center, added a game-high nine rebounds in just 23 minutes.
Cal shot 53 percent from the field, including 8-of-14 from Tamir, who was 1-of-10 in a 62-50 win over Washington on Thursday. It was the Bears' second-best offensive output of the season.
Marcus Moore had 13 points and Shaminder Gill and Justin Lyman each added 12 for the Cougars, who made just 19-of-55 shots (34.5 percent) and committed 22 turnovers.
The Bears, who lead the conference in defense, held an opponent under 60 points for the third straight game and eighth time this season. They are off to their best 16-game start since the 1959-60 season.
