Cougar Soccer Wins Home Opener 4-1 Over Gonzaga

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University (5-2-0) soccer team took a 4-1 decision over Gonzaga (2-6-0) Friday in its home opener.

The Cougars took control early with goal by Natalie Kehl (Spokane, Wash.) in the 11th minute of play. Kehl turned at the top of the penalty box, powering her second shot of the season into the back of the net. Kehl got in on the action again in the second half with an assist, her first of the season.

Six minutes later, the Cougars sophomore leading scorer Katrina Stroh (Federal Way, Wash.), finished a free kick from Beth Childs (Snoqualmie, Wash.). Stroh came up big for the Cougs again in the 65th minute with her fourth goal of the season.

Senior co-captain Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) scored the WSU's third goal of the game with three minutes remaining in the first half, her third goal of the season.

The Bulldogs took away the shutout in the 73rd minute of play with a rebounded shot finished by Gonzaga's Sara Streufert in the goal box.

The Cougars continue their six game home stretch Sunday at 1 p.m. PT against Portland State.
