WSU Women's Tennis Falls To No. 20 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -- After upsetting Oregon and defeating Portland last weekend, the WSU women's tennis team fell 7-2 to No. 20 Arizona in a dual hosted by the Wildcats at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center Friday.

WSU's junior transfer Ana Maria Moura (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) accounted for the Cougars' only singles victory as she upset Arizona's Uzma Khan at the No. 3 position. Khan is currently the No. 86 ranked singles player in the nation.

Moura also teamed up with senior Patrycja Gadjzik (Szczecin, Poland) to post the doubles victory for the Cougars. Moura and Gadjzik defeated Arizona's Laresa Marino and Uzma Khan 8-6 at the No. 2 position.

WSU's senior Melissa Pine (Newfoundland, Canada) and junior Tamara Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) fell 8-3 to UA's #4 nationally ranked duo of Lindsay Blau and Michelle Gough at the No. 1 position.

The Cougars are now 10-8 overall and 1-4 in the Pac-10.

WSU returns to action Saturday as it takes on No. 6 Arizona State in Tempe at noon.
