SAN DIEGO - The Washington State women's tennis team recorded its second win in three days at the University of San Diego Invitational with an 8-1 victory over Yale, Sunday.
The Cougars won five of six singles matches and swept three doubles matches to improve their record to 8-5 on the season.
"We're real pleased with our singles play," WSU head coach Cari Groce said. "If we get to a point where we are consistently winning three or more singles matches, then we are setting ourselves up for a chance to win some matches."
WSU's Ana Moura defeated Elizabeth Kaufman, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to post her fourth consecutive win and eighth in her last nine matches.
Moniek van de Ven won for the third straight day in the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kirsten Gross.
The Cougars swept three doubles matches and finished the tournament with a 5-1 record in doubles play. Kathleen Pienaar and Tamara Filipovic improved to 7-0 with an 8-2 win over Gross and Ashlee Ferlito at No. 3 doubles.
WSU continues its road trip with an 11 a.m. match at San Diego State, Tuesday.
