Cougar Tennis Defeats Boise State 6-3

February 5, 2000

BOISE, Idaho - The WSU women's tennis team continued their winning streak by defeating host Boise State 6-3 in a dual match at Boas Tennis Center Saturday.

WSU got off to a rough start as both their No. 1 and No. 2 positions suffered defeats. Boise State's Pia-Lena Ander defeated Patrycja Gajdzik (Szczecin, Poland) (6-4,6-0) at the No. 1 position, and WSU's Melissa Pine (Newfoundland, Canada) was defeated (1-6,7-5,6-3) by Renate Stoop at the No. 2 position.

"Unfortunately Patrycja didn't play well, but she is very capable of doing so," WSU coach Cari Groce said. "Melissa played well at No. 2 and has become fairly more comfortable at the position. Everyone else stepped up and played well."

WSU won four of the six singles matches, and two of the three doubles matches to defeat the Broncos.

The Cougars have a break before they travel to Seattle to take on the University of Washington on February 25.

"We have about three weeks until our next match," said Groce. "We will continue to do the things we are doing in practice to prepare for the next round of matches. We still have several tough matches ahead."
