SEATTLE - The Cougars fell 5-3 to No. 25 Fresno State, as the third day of competition came to a close in Seattle.

The Cougars now 5-4 overall won two of six singles and one of two doubles matches.

Senior Melissa Pine (Newfoundland, Canada) continued shine as she defeated Kandiss Creighton (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 2 singles position. Pine went undefeated (3-0) at the No. 2 position this weekend.

"I think Melissa was a stand-out for us this weekend," WSU head coach Cari Groce said. "She played very well in singles."

Junior Tamara Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) also celebrated a win as she defeated Ewa Grusiecka (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 5 position.

Senior Patrycja Gajdzik (Szczecin, Poland) and sophomore Sarah Burrows (Lakewood, Colo.) paired up to give WSU its only victory in doubles play as they defeated Kandiss Creigton and Liesl Fichybauer (9-8) at the No. 1 position.

"I though we competed well this weekend," Groce said. "We went over there not knowing the status of some of the player, due to injuries, but we competed well. It just didn't go our way today."

The Cougars will return to action this Sunday, March 5 as they take on the No. 33 Oregon in Eugene at noon.
