PULLMAN, Wash. - After holding the Cardinal (8-3-1, 1-1-0 Pac-10) scoreless for 115 minutes the Cougar soccer team was dealt a 1-0 loss off a free kick just over 10 minutes into second overtime period Sunday.

The Cougars (8-4-0, 0-2-0 Pac-10) outshot the 13th ranked Cardinal 19-18 and watched Natalie Kehl's (Spokane, Wash.) shot in the first half hit the post and roll across the goal line before a defender cleared it out.

Senior Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) had 10 shots in the game, which ties her career high, but Stanford's Carly Smolak came up with 10 saves.

Back after sitting two games out with a concussion, Lindsey Jorgensen (North Bend, Wash.) made nine saves in net. In addition to Jorgensen's play, the Cougars were boosted in the backfield by the play of freshman defender Mariette Boyce (West Linn, Ore.).

In the second overtime period Stanford's Marcie Ward served in a free kick from the right corner and Becky Myers headed it in to end the game.

"They're dangerous in the air and that's how the winning goal ended up getting scored," head coach Dan Tobias said. "But I think what we take out of this is a good performance, definitely something to build on, I know we're going to keep getting better and I know our program's going to be successful."

WSU is on the road next weekend, taking on Arizona Friday Oct. 13th at 7 p.m. MST and Arizona State Sunday Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. MST.
