RENO, Nev. (AP) - Junior guard Adrian McCullough scored 19 points to lead five Nevada players in double figures as the Wolf Pack won its season opener with an 80-55 victory over Washington State on Friday night.

Joao Santos and Calvin Criddle scored 13 points each for Nevada with Terrance Green and Richard Sturgis adding 11 each.

The victory, before a crowd of 6,191 at Lawlor Events Center, was the first Division I coaching victory for Nevada's Trent Johnson, a former Stanford assistant. It was the first loss for Washington State coach Paul Graham, also making his debut as a Division I head coach.

Chris Crosby scored 16 points to lead the Cougars. Jan Michael Thomas added 12.

Nevada led by as much as 19 in the first half, taking a 39-20 lead on a jumper by McCullough with 2:23 left. McCullough, a junior from Oakland, Calif., had 12 of his points in the first half.

Washington State pulled to within nine points early in the first half, but a 9-0 run by the Wolf Pack stretched the lead back to 18 and Nevada coasted from there.

Santos, a junior from Lisbon, Portugal led Nevada with nine.

Nevada outrebounded the Cougars 34-25, including 18 offensive boards.

The Wolf Pack did not go to the free throw line in the first half, but hit 14 of 18 shots in the second half as the Cougars were forced to foul down the stretch.
