Devon Lucal joined WSU in September of 2018. He is an assistant director of athletic communications, working directly with the Cougar volleyball, track and field, and cross country programs.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lucal received his Bachelor of Arts in sport management, along with a coaching minor from the University of Mount Olive, in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Following his 2013 graduation, Lucal completed his Master's Degree in education, with an emphasis in sport administration at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma in 2016.
Previously Lucal served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications at the University of Arkansas at Monticello located in Monticello, Arkansas. He was the primary contact for all 11 of the sports at UAM, along with managing the UAM Sports social media outlets, creating all graphics for athletics, assisting in athletics marketing, along with directing, and producing all highlight packages, and coach interviews. Lucal was named the 2017-18 AVCA Grant Burger Award winner within the SID category for NCAA Division II for his work with the volleyball program. Devon has also received two College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) citations for excellence in publications, including finishing sixth in the nation for an info-graphic athlete feature, and eighth in the nation for his design and creation of a volleyball poster for UAM.
During his stint at Northwestern Oklahoma, Lucal served as the primary media and communications contact for women's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and rodeo. He also assisted with the communications efforts for the remainder of NWOSU's teams, including in assisting in managing all social media outlets. Lucal's second year as a graduate assistant saw an increase in duties and responsibility which included, aiding in the administration of Northwestern by taking over coordinating game day promotions and operations season ticket sales for both football and basketball, and assisting with day-to-day internal operations.
While at UMO, he was a student assistant for the sports information department, while also later serving as a student assistant coach for both women's soccer and men's volleyball. As a coach Devon assisted on a Trojan women's soccer team who claimed the 2011 Conference Carolinas Eastern Division Regular Season Championship and a men's volleyball team that captured the CC Regular Season Championship in 2013.
As a student-athlete Lucal was a member of the Trojans Men's Basketball team for two years from 2008-2010, and he was named Trojan Sportsmanship Award winner during his freshman year in 2008.
