Cougar Football Spring Practice Recap, Shoulder Pads

March 26, 2013

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State football practiced in helmets and shoulder pads for the first time this spring, working out in a sunny Martin Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

After practicing in helmets the past two practices, the Cougars were able to pop the pads a little bit Tuesday. The defense turned in a couple big plays as safety Mitchell Peterson picked off a pass for the third straight day, linebacker Jared Byers wrestled away an interception in the 7-vs.-7 and defensive lineman Xavier Cooper keyed a goal line stop on a run play during the team session.

The offense saw Connor Halliday connect with a couple running backs for some big plays as Teondray Caldwell produced a big play with a long catch-and-run up the sideline and Marcus Mason later took a pass from Halliday and scored over the left side. Quarterback Austin Apodaca closed his day with a touchdown pass to Bobby Ratliff who caught the pass in traffic and turned up field for the score.

The Cougars will again practice in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts Thursday at 3 p.m. in Martin Stadium.
